THQ confirms over-the-top, arcade-style wrestling game headed to Nintendo's handheld on November 22 with the console versions' DLC characters and two exclusive modes.
WWE 12 is set for a November 22 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, but THQ isn't completely ignoring handheld gamers eager to exchange season's beatings this year. The publisher today confirmed that the arcade-style WWE All Stars will arrive on the 3DS on the same day that its more simulation-driven counterpart hits consoles.
WWE All Stars debuted its exaggerated brand of wrestling action on a variety of platforms in March, but 3DS owners will be rewarded somewhat for their patience. In addition to the game's 3D visuals, WWE All Stars on the 3DS will include two exclusive new modes and 13 playable characters that were previously offered as downloadable add-ons for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of All Stars. With a roster pulled from the WWE's past and present, All Stars allowed for players to pit legends like The Ultimate Warrior and "Macho Man" Randy Savage against more contemporary grapplers like John Cena and Randy Orton.
While the game was released as an "over-the-top" alternative to THQ's primary WWE franchise, it might not have been sufficiently in excess of the top for the publisher's liking. Next year the company will publish WWE Brawl, which does away with the wrestling ring in favor of fully destructible environments and gives characters like the Undertaker and Triple H super powers and (more) exotic back stories.
