At In-Cosmetics Asia, Cosmetochem International AG will be launching a deodorant and antibacterial active derived from alpine lichen. usNeo (INCI:�Propanediol (and) Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract (and) Tromethamine)�is said to have an antibacterial profile against Gram-positive bacteria, specifically against those bacteria causing body odor, while preserving normal skin flora.

The active contains a dextro-rotary form of usnic acid extracted from Usnea barbata (alpine lichen). Usnic acid, a naturally-derived complexing agent from molasses, has known antimicrobial properties and has been used in traditional medicine in many countries to treat various ailments including dermal problems.Usnic acid has been found to posess antibacterial activity, especially effective against Gram positive bacteria. Usnic acid is known to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus mutans, Propionibacterium acnes and Corynebacteria. The acid has also shown anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, UVB protectant and wound-healing properties.

While the active has good activity against Gram positive bacteria, it has limited activity against Gram negative bacteria and fungi.

To test the active's effectiveness, it was compared at 2% against 1% ethyhexylglycerin and 0.3% triclosan. Formulations contianing one of the actives were applied over five days to one armpit of 20 volunteers, with the other armpit being the control. Measurements were taken at 0, 12h, 24h and 48h after application. After 24 hr, the active, triclosan and ethylhexylglycerin showed a 32%, 29% and 1% reduction in underarm odor, respectively, compared to the control.

The active is recommended at 1-2% in:�deodorants, antimicrobial deodorant bars and liquid soaps;� skin care products for blemished, acneic and problem skin; foot care products and anti-odor products.

Jennifer Aniston took a dress that on anyone else would have resembled an oversized v-neck sweatshirt and turned it into the hottest thing in LA at last night?s ELLE Women in Hollywood Tribute.

Aniston partnered the deep-v-neck, pewter-sequinned Kaufman Franco dress with Balenciaga heels and a Ferragamo clutch.

Also attending the 18th annual awards ceremony were Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Richie, Chloe Moretz, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts. Moretz, Pinto and Watts all wore Calvin Klein Collection dresses, as did honouree Elizabeth Olsen. The Martha Marcy May Marlene star was recognised with the Emerging Star Spotlight Award, presented by Ethan Hawke.

Single mum-of-five Chris Walton doesn?t have to spend hours on her hair and make-up to turn a man?s head ? her 2ft-long nails get her all the attention she needs.

The glam 45 year old claims that far from turning men off, her twisted talons have attracted many admirers since she stopped cutting them 20 years ago.

?Men love my nails. Strangers ask for back scrubs and my last boyfriend thought my nails were really cool. Thankfully I never hurt him,? explains Chris, who?s been single for six years following a six-year relationship.

?I?ve never had any complaints from my lovers. I?m pretty talented in the bedroom,? says Chris, who lives with her daughters Charjel, 26, and Chantel, 27, and grandson Elishah, eight, at her home in Las Vegas in the USA.

Chris stopped tending to her nails back in 1991 because she was too busy bringing up her children and working as a singer. She split from their dad after her youngest child was born.

Incredibly, she claims it wasn?t a conscious choice to grow her nails to 2ft. ?I didn?t notice how long they were getting,? she says. ?Over the years they grew and grew but they curled and stayed out of my way so they?ve never stopped me doing anything. I decided not to cut them because I liked being unique.?

Chris has to modify her clothes with zips as she can?t do up buttons. And she?s had to change how she does her housework, too.

?I use kitchen tongs to take clothes out of the washing machine ? if I tried to put my hands inside I could catch a nail and break it,? says Chris, who covers her nails with acrylic to strengthen them.

?Vacuuming can take up to two hours as sometimes my nails get caught up in the vacuum cord.

?But I?ve learnt to adapt and do things slower than everybody else ? there?s nothing I can?t do. I can still cook for the family, although my children often cook for themselves anyway.?

Chris always attracts lots of attention when she goes shopping. ?I can carry a basket and get stuff off the shelves ? shopping isn?t a problem,? she says. ?I have to clasp coins between my fingers instead of using my fingertips, but I cope.

?Strangers stare at me and take pictures. I don?t mind ? I think it?s cool to be unique. Nobody?s ever said anything negative to me.?

Chris drives an automatic car because she can?t use a gearstick but insists she is safe on the road. She also says she washes her hair and applies� make-up without difficulty. She says: ?People assume I struggle to wash my hair and brush my teeth but I don?t, I use my fingers like everyone else.

?I don?t wear make-up every day but when I do, I can hold my mascara easily.?

Amazingly, Chris says it only takes her an hour and a half to apply nail varnish. But she admits she?s had a few accidents.

?I have caught my daughters in the eye when I?ve been braiding their hair but thankfully I?ve never hurt them,? she says.

Chris, who says she was ?shocked? when she was told she held the world record, adds: ?I?m proud of my nails but if there comes a time when I can?t look after myself, I will cut them off.?�

The star of Downton Abbey tells us about her new film project, and what it's like to wear those costumes...

As Lady Sybil, the youngest Grantham daughter on Downton Abbey, Jessica Brown Findlay has to contend with scheming older sisters, strict class divisions, a draughty stately home?and corsets.

?I might wear one if they weren?t so uncomfortable,? she laughs. ?Sometimes I catch a look onscreen and think, ?Ooh, my waist looks small there,? forgetting that I was wearing a corset and that I could hardly breathe.?

Lately, Brown Findlay has turned her attention from Edwardian etiquette and underpinnings to Albatross, the new film. She plays Emelia, an impulsive 18-year-old whose friendship upends strait-laced Beth?s family life. Despite the century between the two characters, Brown Findlay says she detects certain sympathies between Sybil and Emelia.

?They?re both so headstrong and such determined young women,? she says. ?Sybil certainly thinks things through?a lot more than Emelia does. Emelia only really realises things in retrospect.?

Brown Findlay, 22, insists that she had no time for teenage rebellion beyond ?being told off at school for snogging?. Instead, she spent her teenagehood focussing on professional-calibre ballet training, even joining the Kirov for a summer season at the Royal Opera House before ankle injuries drew her dance career to a close. That calamity led her to look to acting?the leading role in Albatross soon followed, and it wasn?t long before Downton producers came calling.

Acting on the show has raised Brown Findlay?s profile in the UK film and TV industry to such a degree that organisers invited her to the Brits to Watch Gala in Los Angeles earlier this year. She calls attending the dinner alongside hosts Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge ?a huge privilege.?

And of course, there?s the matter of the Downton costumes: gloves, shirtwaists, cloche hats, jewels and jet-beaded dinner gowns galore. The often original garments define aspects of her character.�

?Costume is so instant. In a single moment you can start to put over a character because you visually associate certain things with certain characteristics,? she says. The level of consideration invested in the show?s wardrobe choices extends to heel height?all of Sybil?s shoes are flatter than the other girls?, as she?s the more practical, less fashionably minded sister. ?To have those elements involved in the costume means that the way you?re thinking about your character does also change, and it?s so useful.?

Her favourite outfit has been the nurse?s uniform (?so comfortable?), but the ?trouser moment? from season one also proved memorable. ?I?m not even sure she likes them that much because we?ve never seen them again, but she was trying to make a statement, and there it was.?

Up next is a deeper dive into the past?to 1209. Brown Findlay is currently filming the adaptation of Kate Mosse?s Labyrinth, in which she plays medieval heroine Dame Alais.

But back to the boy-snogging ballet student of yore: what would she be doing now if she wasn?t part of the UK?s hottest TV series and the new British coming-of-age film?

?I would probably be trying to get onto Downton,? she said. ?I reckon if I hadn?t done that job, I would be doing everything in my power to get myself on.?

It was a case of different tents, different crowds at the past weekend?s Frieze Art Fair, but the individualism and stylish point of view that also characterises London Fashion Week was present and correct.

Meandering through the sculpture garden and sizing up the queues, we spotted plenty of sculptural necklaces, gallerist haircuts (sleek bobs or severe fringe, but straight, straight, straight) and copies of The Art Newspaper. Bold, graphic lip colour and vintage frame handbags completed the looks.�

A word on shoes: whilst the footwear the Converse/Dazed 2011 Emerging Artists Award on Saturday evening may have veered toward the unusual (mismatched neon suede pumps!), there was one answer and one answer only for the main show. Flats. Anything else risked curtailing explorations of the 170 galleries... though with attendees like these, it?s a wonder that anyone looked at the walls.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have to be one of the cutest couples ever! Not only do they seem very in love (ahh!) but they are always seen out and about enjoying a bit of family time with their two children.

So, it was amazing news when the pair announced they were expecting a third child earlier this year. To add to their excitement, they are said to be expecting a little boy to join their two daughters, Violet, five, and Seraphina, two.

Ben is said to be excited about having a 'little sports buddy' in the family. A friend said to Life & Style: 'He can't wait to take his son to baseball games and play catch with him.'

Too cute!

However Jen is said to be a little more nervous about welcoming a little boy.

A source said: 'She feels like she won't know what to do. She's close to her two sisters, and her instincts were spot-on with the girls.

'But she never had a brother and doesn't know the drill.'

Ah, we're sure you'll be amazing Jen!

A twice widowed, 85 year old billionaire this week wed a civil servant 25 years her junior in Seville. The eccentric and much loved Duchess of Alba, who is a distant relative of Winston Churchill and Princess Diana, performed a short flamenco dance for the assembled crowds outside the ceremony despite her ripe age and tiny frame. But it was far from smooth sailing for the Duchess and her groom to be?

Several of her six children, all from her first marriage, objected to the partnership and accused Diez, 60, of being a gold digger. In a bid to reassure them the Duchess divided her �3 billion fortune between her six children to convince them that her suitor is besotted with her rather than her money while Diez has relinquished his rights to her fortune in an effort to appease them.

"They don't want me to marry, but they change partners more often than I do," the duchess previously said about her children."The tough part was that my children didn't understand and they got quite angry with me.

"It's true that I planned to marry. We were both full of enthusiasm for the idea. I took a step back for my children. I saw that everything was going to be very complicated."

But despite the rocky road to the aisle, the Duchess seemed overjoyed to finally wed. We wish her and her toyboy all the luck in the world.

Stella McCartney?s cruelty-free fashion message already stretches from her covetable handbags to the tips of her vegan high heels. This spring, the designer is extending her eco-friendly reach with the launch of a sunglass collection.

The collection of three acetate and two metal frames makes use of a different type of plastic than that used in standard glasses frames. Whereas most plastic is derived from petroleum, McCartney?s blend includes a 54% contribution from castor oil seeds, a renewable resource.�

?The greatest challenge was the amount of time that was spent on research and testing to get the best quality product possible with the highest performance in terms of resistance, while still maintaining the style and finish we always try to achieve,? McCartney said.

And there?s nothing shady about that.

We were a little shocked when Jordan announced her split from toyboy Leandro Penna, but not as shocked as we were when we saw her parading around with pretty boy Danny Cipriani barely a week later.

The 23-year-old rugby player whose previous girlfriends include the likes of Kelly Brook and Cheeky Girl, Monica Irimia was spotted getting out of Jord?s car on a recent trip to Thorpe Parks Fright Night. The pair were then seen leaving a friends house together the next morning.

Although this may seem a little cosy to us, Jordan has since denied the romance. She told the Daily Mirror: 'Those rumours are b*******. Nothing is happening with Danny.'

'I am happy being single and focusing on my kids, on my family,' she added.

The mum-of-three has been linked with a string of men since her marriage to Peter Andre ended in 2009. She married Alex Reid but divorced him a year later, but not before meeting Argentinean model Leandro Panne at an Oscars party and falling madly in love. The pair even got matching name tattoos, alas, it wasn?t to be and they parted ways earlier this month.

But it looks like things could be changing as she has declared she now wants to take things slowly until she meets Mr. Right.

'I'm not in any rush to get married again although I'm not saying I wouldn't marry again. But it will be with the right person at the right time.'

Tips on how to buy affordable contemporary art

October in London sees savvy urbaites caught up in the grip of art fever. As the multi-billionaires flock to�Frieze� �those of us on a more modest (or should that be realistic?!) budget head for the�Affordable Art Fairs, to look at new art in unintimidating surroundings, introduced by helpful gallerists, with prices on show and informative talks and guided tours. In addition to the familar Battersea Fair (20-23 October) this year sees the launch of a new Affordable Art Fair, this time in Hampstead (27-30 October), so we asked fair director Romy Westwood for her top tips on buying art that you love at prices that won't break the bank...

• Explore with an open mind.Whether you're visiting an exhibition, art fair, gallery or market - you never know what gems you might find. I relish a bargain, but I also enjoy investing in a piece of work that I love. Everyone has their own personal style and often one person's trash is another's treasure so don't necessarily buy what other people tell you. Some of the artists I respect the most are Hieronymus Bosch, Francis Bacon and John Martin (whose current Apocalypse exhibition at Tate Britain is a must see). I've been told I've got a very macabre art collection so there's never one taste to suit all?but it is always a great talking point when hosting a dinner party!

• Get inspired.�It's great to see works of varying genres in situ to give you an idea of how art can adorn your home. Visit galleries, institutions and public buildings such as Charleston or Kenwood House (situated on Hampstead Heath that has a superb collection of paintings and masterpieces). The more art you're exposed to, the more your knowledge will grow and taste becomes refined.

• Chat! The art industry is bursting with exceptionally interesting and knowledgeable folk and it's a pleasure to meet people. Whether you're at an art fair or private gallery, have a chat to the curator or gallerist. You shouldn't feel intimidated and you don't have to blag it - no question is a wrong question. If you're interested in investing, it's certainly the best way to gauge the artist's career progression and their achievements but ultimately you're the only expert on what you like.

• Wear flat shoes!Art fairs are brilliant as there is so much variety but do inevitably involve a lot of walking, so make sure you've got comfortable footwear and pace yourself. Picking out the perfect piece is something that can't be rushed and should be enjoyable opposed to exhausting. Once you've had a look round, take a break to refresh your senses. Have a glass of wine, chat to friends and then have another gander. My heart skipped a beat and I knew instinctively I absolutely had to have the first piece of artwork I ever bought on that second look!

• Go wild. Don't be afraid to mix contemporary with traditional. My modern flat is filled with 50's furniture and edgy work so whether your house is new, Victorian or Georgian, mix it up and really make a statement!

• Luxe for less. A good way to kick start your art collection is to buy original prints or work by emerging artists. The Affordable Art Fair Hampstead is a great place for picking up top artists like Damien Hirst, Howard Hodgkin, Polly Morgan, Tracey Emin and David Hockney... and with a ceiling price of �4,000 you'll get way more bang for your buck whilst having a lot of fun doing it!

• Just do it! As a general rule you only get one chance at buying original art so if there's something you have your heart set on, then go for it! If you're worried about not having enough pennies, many of the galleries at the Affordable Art Fair are very accommodating and some are part of the Own Art Scheme so will allow you to pay in instalments. It may just be a pair of shoes or a round at the pub each month that you'll have to miss out on, but it's so worth it.

Fashion?s love affair with all things Frieze continued Thursday night with Calvin Klein Collection?s dinner in honour of London?s Design Museum.

Guests including Freida Pinto, Natalia Vodianova, Lily Donaldson, Carine Roitfeld and Lulu Kennedy enjoyed performances from Charlie Siem and The New Look before a DJ set by Jamie XX. Elle Macpherson, Central Saint Martins Professor Louise Wilson, Bianca Jagger, Rosario Dawson and Yasmin Le Bon also attended.

Calvin Klein Creative Directors Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, Design Museum Director Deyan Sudjic and British designer John Pawson co-hosted the event in a very special location?the Design Museum?s new home.�

The London institution has mounted exhibitions exploring fashion illustration and Hussein Chalayan from its Shad Thames premise. It?s also hosting a much-anticipated Christian Louboutin show in March 2012. But in 2014, the Museum will move to a new home in the former Commonwealth Institute that boasts three times as much exhibition space as the current location. Last night?s party represented the final event held in the future Design Museum until the grand opening.

Fashion?s love affair with all things Frieze continued Thursday night with Calvin Klein Collection?s dinner in honour of London?s Design Museum.

Guests including Freida Pinto, Natalia Vodianova, Lily Donaldson, Carine Roitfeld and Lulu Kennedy enjoyed performances from Charlie Siem and The New Look before a DJ set by Jamie XX. Elle Macpherson, Central Saint Martins Professor Louise Wilson, Bianca Jagger, Rosario Dawson and Yasmin Le Bon also attended.

Calvin Klein Creative Directors Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, Design Museum Director Deyan Sudjic and British designer John Pawson co-hosted the event in a very special location?the Design Museum?s new home.�

The London institution has mounted exhibitions exploring fashion illustration and Hussein Chalayan from its Shad Thames premise. It?s also hosting a much-anticipated Christian Louboutin show in March 2012. But in 2014, the Museum will move to a new home in the former Commonwealth Institute that boasts three times as much exhibition space as the current location. Last night?s party represented the final event held in the future Design Museum until the grand opening.
