London latest: Peter Pilotto
By Emma Sells | Posted: Mon 19 Sep 2011
Turn-out for this morning's Peter Pilotto show was a little bit thin on the ground - perhaps last night's round of parties were too much fun.
But anyone who chose having a lie in over heading to Waterloo will be kicking themselves because they missed the highlight of the week so far.
Now masters of print Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos were inspired by a recent trip to Indonesia, and the vibrant colours of the country's plant and sea life. Scuba-themed hints of black neoprenene, a sleeve here, a dress hem there, along with chunky plastic zips gave the collection a more sporty vibe than usual, but none of their signature elegance was lost.
This season's colourful abstract print covered mini dresses with racer backs, skinny luxe tees tucked into narrow trousers and simple shirt dresses. And a bright pop-y print was splashed across uber-cool moulded waistcoats with patch pockets, worn over long-sleeved T-shits and narrow trousers. There was some beautiful, cut-out embroidery highlighted with splashes of neon that was clearly inspired with coral, and printed pieces picked out with perspex sequins that caught and reflected the light. And pleat-waisted full skirts - a new, voluminous shape for the duo - were made up in shimmering silver and a blue and grey wave print.
So Peter Pilotto looks set to be the editors' favourite for work and play once again over the coming season. And there's also sure to be a fight for the colourful, perspex heeled shoes that accompanied the collection, dreamed up by Nicholas Kirkwood - we?ll take one in every shade please.
