Just days after Samsung unveiled the device -- which features a 7.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, a beefy 1.4GHz processor and the Android Honeycomb OS -- Apple's lawyers swooped in and quickly secured an injunction against it.
Like it's bigger and smaller Galaxy Tab brothers, a Dusseldorf court has ordered that the new 7.7 model be banned from sale in Germany -- even before the device hits store shelves in the country.
"Samsung respects the court's decision," James Chung, a Seoul-based spokesman the company told Bloomberg. But Chung believes that the ruling "severely limits consumer choice in Germany."
With the ban in place, Samsung's press team removed all Galaxy Tab 7.7 units from its demo area at the IFA, replaced signage and covered up any mention of the beleaguered device. The firm's attention turned to its stylus-driven Galaxy Note and fresh range of Bada phones.
All Galaxy Tab models are now banned in Germany and Samsung isn't selling any tablets in Australia until the end of September -- at least -- due to legal pressure from Apple. In the Netherlands, some Samsung smartphones are banned for infringing Apple's patents.
In its defense, Samsung has filed suit against Apple for infringing upon Samsung's mobile communication patents in its fleet of iOS products. It has also cited the Kurick sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey as prior art to the design of the iPad.
